In the past 6 months there have only been 2 CD’s that have gotten me really excited. And by really excited I mean I have listened to them over and over and will continue to listen to them over and over until perhaps another Taylor comes along and steals the cars CD player spot (but somehow I think that’s unlikely).
The two CD’s I’m talking about are The Pretty Reckless debut album and Taylor Swifts “Speak Now”. Both very different from one another but theres something great about both.
I’ll start with Taylor Momsen and her band The Pretty Reckless. I’ve been a fan of Taylor Momsen for some time. I thought she made the cutest who in How the Grinch stole Christmas and I loved her character in Gossip Girl. When I heard that she was dabbling in music with her new rock band I was a bit skeptical. Most actresses turned singers are pretty cookie cutter. They may have one big song but beyond that they will sink back into the TV or movie world where we will forget they even tried singing until a song of theirs randomly gets played when your ipod is on shuffle. But Taylor’s band is anything but cookie cutter. When I first listened to “Make Me Wanna Die” I was really surprised by how much I actually liked it. It had a different sound, one I don’t listen to all that often but I think for that reason I was even more drawn to it. So when I found out The Pretty Reckless was going to be performing at Warped Tour I was really excited. Now I’m not going to lie, I hadn’t listened to the rest of their CD and was almost more excited that I was going to see “Little J” in person than I was to hear the rest of their music (I’m celeb obsessed what can I say). But they sold me on their performance and I loved that she wasn’t trying to be like Miley or any other pop star. I immediately downloaded their CD when I got home and have been listening to it ever since. Some of the other songs off their album which I just love are “Nothing left to loose”, “Light me up”, “Miss Nothing”, and “You”. If you haven’t yet, I 100% advise you to give this album a chance. Its different from what else is out there right now and its fun to listen to a girl rock out.

On to Taylor #2. The CD that finally replaced The Pretty Reckless in my cars player is Taylor Swifts “Speak Now”. This CD is just absolutely amazing. I have always been a big “lyric” person and I love when I hear a song and can immediately relate it to some situation or experience that Ive had in my life. Taylor Swift just has the most perfect knack for connecting with her fans through her song lyrics. I swear “Back To December” could be me speaking to a good majority of the guys I dated: “You gave me all your love and all I gave you was goodbye” (I was a bit unappreciative & selfish back then..dont judge me). Then we have “Dear John” which I immediately love because I know its about John Mayor (deny it all you want Taylor- I know its true!) and I love juicy celeb gossip which is basically what it is just in song form. If these lines don’t scream man-whore John Mayor I don’t know what does: ” You are an expert at sorry And keeping lines blurry Never impressed by me acing your tests All the girls that you’ve run dry have tired, lifeless eyes Cause you burned them out”. Moving on to “Better than revenge” where Taylor completely calls out Camilla Bell for being a homewrecker and stealing that stupid boy who broke up with her via a phone call from her (I don’t think his name is worth mentioning. Team Taylor! She can do so much better than him anyways) I’m used to the sweet innocent Taylor and this song showed that she has an edge and I love it. Even I’m a little scared to get Taylor on my bad side after hearing this song. Ha ha. Really, I could just go one by one through every song on this album and write why I love it but that would take forever so I’m going to cut this short. Everyone needs to listen to this CD. Seriously, what other musical artist actually writes all of their own music? I don’t care if people say that she “cant sing” to me someone who can write the way she does totally makes up for any imperfection in her singing (which I think is perfectly fine).

Well, that’s my musical advice for the day. With that being said I’m off to get ready for work where I’ll listen to Taylor Swift as I get ready…
